Animal Shelters
We use three shelters. One is an Animal Wellness shelter. The founder is Brigette Bardou, the actress. The animals there are free roaming which is essential for the psychological wellbeing of street dogs.
The other two are small independent and unnamed Sri Lankan shelters. One is our emergency go-to kennels, as the owner was a veterinary assistant and therefore knowledgeable regarding the after care of sick or injured stray animals. This is quite rare in Sri Lanka. The animals there are kennelled so we try to use them only for short term stays. The shelter is funded by the people who place the animals in their care.
The other shelter is only small and usually full, however this is the best of the three as the owners and workers truly care for the animals providing lots of TLC. The animals are free roaming most of the time. A special room has been created for the disabled / paralysed dogs.
Foster Homes
We then have several animal lovers who despite having very low incomes have a genuine love for the street dogs and cats. We fund the animals costs in return for a safe, loving permanent home.
